Maurice B. Collette, age 93 of Grafton, ND passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.
Maurice B. Collette was born January 1, 1925 in the families log home in Oakwood Township the son of the late Arthur and Louisa (Campbell) Collette. He attended St. Aloysius Academy in Oakwood. Following his education he started farming with his father and brothers. Maurice served in the United States Army from 1946-1947, serving in the Aleutian Islands as a bread maker. Upon his discharge he returned home and continued to farm. Maurice was united in marriage to Lorna Fernholtz on October 12, 1963 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in DeGraff, MN. The couple lived and farmed near Grafton and farmed some in Benson, MN. In 1965 they built their home in Grafton and have lived there since. The couple would winter in Homestead Florida and Maurice worked for the Algers Farms, taking care of the potato planting. He also worked for Rene French Construction. Maurice retired in 1987.
He was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Grafton VFW Post and the Grafton American Legion Post. He enjoyed going uptown for coffee and arguing politics with the coffee group.
Maurice is survived by his wife, Lorna of Grafton, ND; his siblings: Agnes Lessard, Grand Forks, ND; Roland (Elaine) Collette, Oakwood, ND; Joyce (Roman) Lessard, Oakwood, ND; Frances Schuster, Grafton, ND; and Carol (Terry) Gallagher, Olympia, WA. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Romeo, Kenneth, Margaret and Juliette.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, ND in the spring. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
