Mary Schanilec

Mary Schanilec, age 94 of Park River, ND, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River.

Mary Jarolimek was born December 18, 1921 in Ops Township, ND, the daughter of the late Matthew and Mary (Svadlena) Jarolimek. She attended country school at the Ops School #33 and she was active in the 4-H in Conway for many years. Following her education, she helped on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Charles Schanilec on June 12, 1945 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Veseleyville, ND. The couple farmed southwest of Veseleyville until retiring in 1980. They continued to make their home on the farm for many years and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995. Charles passed away on February 12, 1997.

She was a member of the St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Veseleyville, the Altar Society and the Rosary Society. She enjoyed flowers and gardening.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as sisters-in-law: Angela and Barbara Jarolimek and special friend since childhood Georgia Lunski and her daughter Marilyn. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers: Matt and Steve, sister Anna (Joseph) Kouba, niece Lee Ann Kouba, godson Ronald Kouba, nephews: Arnold and Paul Jarolimik, and Harold Kovarik.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 1, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Veseleyville, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery of Veseleyville.
