Mary M Kennedy

Mary M. Kennedy, age 88, formerly of the Minto area, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.

Mary Ebertowski was born on July 22, 1932 to the late William (Bill) and Sarah (Gerszewski) Ebertowski.  She attended school in Warsaw and later Grafton where she graduated from High School.  Mary married Wenzl J. Kennedy at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw on September 20, 1951.  Wen and Mary made their home on Wen’s family farm near Voss, ND and raised six children (and many animals!).

As her children grew older, she began working outside the farm.  She worked at Sears in Grafton, as manager of the the Fashion Shoppe in Grafton, as director of the Walsh County Nutrition Program, as a tour guide for SCR Tours in Fargo, and at Golden Harvest Jewelers in Grafton.

Mary enjoyed music, playing bridge, reading, flowers, auctions, antiques, traveling (she and Wen had many adventures), spending time with family, holidays, scotch and wine, getting together with friends, saying the rosary, lemon meringue pie and so many other things.

Mary is survived by her children: Ann (Mike) Slesar, Louisville, CO, Kathleen (Kitty) Kennedy, Duluth, MN, Diana (Dan) Stell, Peoria, AZ, Julie Kennedy, Minto, ND, Gail (Joe) Fazekas, Yukon, OK, and John (Lynette) Kennedy, Minto, ND; grandchildren: Jack and Bennett Kennedy, Minto, ND, Aryn (Chris) Citowicki, Missoula, MT; great-grandchildren: Vivia and Sebastian (Sebi) Citowicki; sisters: Terry Boushey, Lakeland, FL, Susan (Pat) Kenney, Detroit Lakes, MN; brothers: Ray, Dave of East Grand Forks, MN, Kenny (Karen), Bemidji, MN.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2009, and sister Jeannette.

A memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.  There will be a luncheon following the service at the Minto Community Center.  Inurnment will be at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery near Mandan, ND on June 24, 2021.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Minto American Legion Auxiliary, the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery or Valley Ambulance in Grafton.
