Mary C Hodny

Mary C. Hodny, age 82 formerly of Lankin, ND, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center of Devils Lake.

Mary C. Brandvold was born May 27, 1936 in Moorhead, MN, the daughter of the late Edwin and Irene (Stevens) Brandvold. She grew up and attended school in Moorhead. She was united in marriage to Jerry Hodny on October 9, 1959. The couple worked side by side on the farm until his death on November 18, 1991. She moved to Lankin and worked at Friendship until retiring and moving to Minneapolis to stay with her daughter. She relocated to Park River, ND in 2017.

Mary was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Altar Society of Bechyne. The years she spent teaching religion to the children brought her so much joy. She was also a member of the Lankin American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and sewing baptism gowns for her grandchildren and the church. Family has been her life story.

Mary is survived by her children: Maryetta (Keith) Nelson, Saint Thomas, ND, Geraldine Lipsh, Minneapolis, MN, Diana Chandler, Kansas City, MO, Paula Johnson, Minneapolis, MN, Teresa Malone (John Fitzpatrick), Minneapolis, MN, Jerry Tom (Mary) Hodny, Lankin, ND, Christy (Lee) Ruzicka, Fordville, ND, Michael (Jacki) Hodny, Lankin, ND, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, brother John Brandvold, MT and sister Elvina “Beanie” Johnson, Apple Valley, MN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, 2 great grandsons: Adam and John, sisters: Lorraine Woodruff, Dody Savageau, Carol Burnhardt, brother Dick Brandvold and son-in-law Alex Johnson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 27, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Bechyne. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 A.M. at the church. Interment will be at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery of Bechyne.
