Marvin "Terry" McBain

Marvin “Terry” McBain, age 70 of Park River, ND passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones, at Sanford Hospital of Fargo, ND.

Marvin “Terry” McBain was born on November 23, 1955 in Grafton, ND to the late James and Mary Ann (Long) McBain. He was raised and attended school in Grafton. After his education, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Terry served his country from 1974 to 1977, after which he remained a part of the United States Naval Reserves until 1980. After his discharged, he returned to Grafton and worked for Motor Coach Industries in Pembina and Associated Potato in Grafton.

Terry moved to the Bismarck, ND area and began working for Basin Electric Power Coop. He worked as a scrubber operator for 38 years. In 2005, Terry and Janet Votava reunited their relationship from years past. They enjoyed four wheeling and Ranger trail rides together. They watched hours of NASCAR and football together. Terry loved to cook and bake, so he and Janet were always trying out new and improved recipes. When the weather was nice, you could find Terry cruising the golf course for a round.

Terry and Janet united in marriage on December 28, 2011, they continued to make their home in the Hazen area. Terry retired in 2021 and the couple returned to Park River. Terry loved the area. He built a workshop on Janet’s family farm in Veseleyville and added a few chickens. He adored the farm and farm living. Terry loved technology, computers, and his Xbox, where he learned to play “Farm Simulator”. Even when Terry’s health began to fall, he still enjoyed adventures with Janet and his brothers to favorite cafes, new restaurants, and long country drives.

Terry will be dearly missed by his wife, Janet, Park River, ND; brothers: Pat (Sandy) McBain, Grafton, ND and Troy McBain, Park River, ND; in-laws: Susan (Stewart) Jacobson, Crary, ND and Steven Votava, Park River, ND; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Mike, and son Tyrel McBain.

Funeral services will be on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River, ND. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at

St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 5 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 and prayer service at 6:15 p.m. Inurnment will be at St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery of Veseleyville. Military Rites will be provided by the Paul Farup American Legion Post #147 and the U.S. Naval Honor Guard.
