Marvene F. Johnson, age 85 of Grand Forks and formerly of Grafton passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Woodside Village in Grand Forks, ND. Marvene F. Wencl was born April 21, 1928 in Brocket, ND, the daughter of the late William and Emma (Svercl) Wencl. She was raised on a farm near Brocket and attended Sodder School. She moved to Lakota to live with her sister, Alvina Krell. She started working at the age of 13 and retired when she was 75. She moved to Grafton and worked at the Legion and at Polly's. In January 2012 she moved to Grand Forks to her own apartment. She moved to Valley 4000 in 2013. She enjoyed the community and had many friends in the Grafton Area. She was well known in her circle and through her job, especially Rock Tweten. Marvene is survived by her children: Kathy (Mark) Bohlman, Grand Forks, ND and David (Lynn) Johnson, Lindstrom, MN; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survived. She was the last survivor of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Alvina Krell-Schauer, Mary Kosobud, William Wencl, Jr. and George Wencl. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Kosobud Cemetery, rural Lankin, ND, in the spring.
