Martin W. Altendorf, age 60 of Minto, ND died Saturday, February 28, 2009. Martin W. Altendorf was born June 16, 1948 in Grafton, ND the son of Elmer and Doris (Collette) Altendorf. He attended rural school near Warsaw, ND and later attended the Convent School in Warsaw. He graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1967. While in school he farmed and did custom harvesting with his father and brother. He served in the United States Army from 1967 - 1970.
Following his discharge he returned to Minto and continued farming and trucking. Martin was united in marriage to Charleen Koehn on April 8, 1972 in Munich, ND. The couple made their home in Minto.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Minto.
Martin is survived by his wife Charleen, Minto, ND; children: Jason Altendorf, Warwick, ND;
Jeff (Emily) Altendorf, McVille, ND; Laura (Mike) Foley, West Fargo, ND; Kyle Altendorf, Minto, ND; Nathan Altendorf, Grand Forks, ND; four grandchildren: Tyler and Kaityn Altendorf, Adam and Claire Foley; his parents; Elmer and Doris Altendorf, Minto, ND; siblings: Marvin (Sherrie) Altendorf, Minto, ND; Jan Altendorf, Minto, ND; Karen (Bruce) Johnson, Grand Forks, ND; Kevin Benson, Bellingham, WA; Donna (Lee) Myogeto, Detroit Lakes, MN; mother-in-law Irene Koehn, Munich, ND; brothers and sister-in-law: Charles (Tina) Koehn, Egeland, ND; Dave (Jill) Koehn, Minto, ND and Rachel (Oscar) Miller, Raleigh, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandson Eric Altendorf, father-in-law: A.J. "Sonny" Koehn, and grandparents: Francis and Laura Altendorf and Almond and Diana Collette.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 6, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Minto, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Minto. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery of Minto, ND. Military rites will be provided by the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard and the Minto American Legion Post #201.
