Mark J. Novak, , age 83 of Lankin, ND passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Mark J. Novak was born July 5, 1927 on the family farm near Pisek, ND the son of the late John T. and Mary (Jelinek) Novak. He grew up and attended school there. Following his education he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from July of 1945 to August of 1946 in the South Pacific. Following his discharge he worked in Chicago for a time. He returned home and was united in marriage to Irene E. Kubat on October 25, 1949 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lankin. The couple lived and farmed near Lankin. Mark was also a bulk oil distributor from 1952-1962. Irene passed away on July 26, 1984. Mark was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin where he served on the Board of Trustees for several years. He was a member of the Grafton Knights of Columbus #3918, the Bosh-Ryba American Legion Post, served on the Lankin City Council for 32 years and served on the Lankin Farmers Union Elevator Board. He is survived by his children: Adrienne Wellman, Cavalier, ND; Mark (Lara) Novak, Lankin, ND; eight grandchildren: Paul Wellman, Jessica (Craig) Bata, Charles Wellman, Emma, Olivia, Maggie, Matthew and Luke Novak, one great grandson; Tucker Bata; his sister Mary Rita Swartz, Lankin, ND; brothers: Cleo (Doris) Novak, Pisek, ND; John (Ann) Novak, Bismarck, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law Paul, daughter-in-law Janet Novak and brother Bruno. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM with a wake service at 7:00 PM and a rosary service at 7:30 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Bosh-Ryba American Legion Post. Interment will be at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery of Lankin, ND.
