Marjorie Jean Holt

Marjorie Jean “Bubby” Holt, age 91 of Grafton, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.

Marjorie Jean Thomson was born April 12, 1925 in Grafton, ND to Charles P. and Gussie M. (Will) Thomson, then Minto, ND. She graduated from Grafton High School in 1943 and attended Mayville State after which she taught in rural school for two years. She married Raymond G. Holt on September 18, 1945. Ray farmed west of Grafton until 1976. Bubby worked at the Grafton State School for many years, beginning in 1965 as a switchboard operator, a bookkeeper and ultimately as a teacher’s assistant. She participated in many activities including Curling, playing in the Kitchen Band, bowling and, in her retirement, working part time as a caregiver’s assistant at Friendship, Inc. She loved to write rhymes, entertain and sing and was known for her friendly manner and beautiful smile.

Bubby was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton Bowlers, Grafton Heathers Curlers, Double M Homemakers, Birthday Club and the Sunset Home Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children: David Holt, Rock Ford, CO; Liane (Mark) Jensen, Farmington Hills, MI; Tom (Susan) Holt, Grafton, ND; Susan (Gregg) Lawrence, Elko, NV; Robert Holt, Grafton, ND; Darin (Lisa) Holt, Farmington, MN; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond Gilbert Holt, sisters: Carol Mohr and Alison Branch and brothers: Marvin and Charles “Chuck” Thomson.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 17, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Grafton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.
