Marjorie M. Hodny, age 83 of Grafton, ND passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the North Memorial Hospital, Robbinsdale, MN with her daughters and family at her side.
Marjorie M. Soukup was born November 14, 1935 in Lankin, ND, the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Pich) Soukup. She grew up on her family’s farm and attended country school in rural Latona Township, graduating from Lankin High School. She was united in marriage to Jacob Charles Hodny on October 19, 1957 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Bechyne, ND. Marjorie and Jake raised three daughters in Grafton, ND. She was a devoted wife, mom, and community volunteer. After the children had grown, she attended the vocational school in East Grand Forks, MN and worked for Home Care at Unity Medical Center in Grafton.
Marjorie was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society of Grafton. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, wife, sister, grandma, aunt, cousin and friend. She took pride in creating a loving family home and was welcoming to all. She and Jake enjoyed retirement together and took time to travel. In her later years Marjorie enjoyed time with her grandchildren, Birthday Club, card groups, and the Walsh County Food Pantry Team. Marjorie will be greatly missed.
Marjorie is survived by her three daughters: Marggy Jo (Marlen) Quern, Alexandria, MN, Constance S. Hodny, Grand Forks, ND, Jacqueline (Brad) Dolan, Plymouth, MN, two grandchildren: Nicole and Jacob Dolan, brother John (Betty) Soukup, Fargo, ND, numerous nieces and nephews and her faithful companion Brutus. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jake, and brother Alvin Soukup.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 15, 2019 at 2:30 P.M. at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery of Bechyne in the spring. Memorial preferred to the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery of Bechyne.
