Marjorie P. Croman

August 5, 1918 — May 31, 2014

Marjorie Pearl Calkins Croman of Grafton, ND returned to her God on May 31, 1014, at the age of 95 at Unity Hospital in Grafton, ND. She was born on August 5, 1918 in Pasadena, California, to John and Pearl (Huffman) Calkins. She grew up and was educated in California, Oregon and Washington. She married Bernie Schroeder in 1936 and lived on Puget Sound in Washington. In 1952, she married Harrison S. Croman. They spent 20 years employed by the Federal Government in New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska, South Dakota and North Dakota. Upon retirement, they lived in rural Port Angeles, Washington. Mr. Croman passed away in 1985, and she moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma in 1988. She spent her most recent years at Leisure Estates--her assisted living apartment at Lutheran Sunset Home--and dearly loved the staff and residents there. Marjorie was a devoted, Christian wife and mother of three children. She was a homemaker, 4-H leader, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, church pianist and a day care provider. She was active in her church in each community and before moving back to ND, taught Adult Sunday School and served for a number of years as "Cheer-person", in charge of cards and flowers for members of Western Heights Baptist Church in Oklahoma. She had a telephone ministry and enjoyed reaching out to others even after her eyesight declined. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. She loved music and enjoyed gardening, fishing, letter writing, reading and knitting. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Marion Phelps; brother, John L. Calkins; son, Larry Schroeder; son-in-law, Randy Cummings; and grandson, Gary Cummings. She is survived by her remaining brother, Herb (Marie) Calkins of Port Angeles, WA and her children, Bobbi (Peter) Carson, St. Thomas, ND; Laurie Cummings of Cleveland, OK; Garry (Ann Maynard) Croman, Edmonds, WA; and daughter-in-law, Shirley Schroeder, Mesquite, NV. Also surviving are grandchildren Christian (Mara) Carson; Melissa (Scott) Peterson; Joshua Carson; Debbie Daigle; Bill Schroeder; and great grand-children Ethan and Ellie Carson; Jennifer and Benjamin Daigle; Gary DeWayne and Michael Cummings and Jack Lee. A Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at St. Thomas United Methodist Church, St. Thomas, ND.
