Marilyn Johnson, age 88 of Grafton, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton.
Marilyn Johnson was born April 27, 1927 in Grafton, ND the daughter of the late Lawrence and Maude (Givens) Johnson. She graduated from Grafton High School in 1946. Following her education she worked in the office for Dr. Countryman and worked in the business office at the Grafton High School. Marilyn later became co-owner of the Walsh County Abstract Office where she worked for many years. She sold the business in 1987 but continued to work there full-time until 1992 and worked part-time until fully retiring in 2008.
Marilyn was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church and WELCA. She was a member of the Grafton All City Band in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. This band played in several Bowl Games including the Rose Bowl and traveled extensively around the United States. She was an avid golfer, curler and bowler. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and was a member of the Walsh County Quilters. Marilyn was currently the co-chair of the Unity Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son, Michael Mattson, Grafton, ND; her aunt, Doris Johnson, Crosby, ND; two nephews, three great nephews, one great niece and several first cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jeanette Johnson Hetzler.
Memorial services will be Monday, December 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Monday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery in the spring.
