Marian Julia Ebertowski

June 20, 1925 — June 30, 2009

Marian J. Ebertowski, age 84 of Drayton, ND and recently of the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, ND died peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton with her sons and other loving relatives by her side. Marian Julia Kasprick was born June 20, 1925 on the family farm in Acton Township, Walsh County, ND, the fifth of six children of Leon Kasprick and Anna Grace (Stoltman) Kasprick. She attended school in Acton Township, and the St. Anthony's Convent in Warsaw, ND Living close to the Red River, she lived through floods, blizzards, the dust bowl of the 1930's and the depression. She learned to love and appreciate her family, friends and the small pleasures in life. She married Sylvester Joseph Ebertowski, who grew up on a farm about three miles up the river, who during the winter months, would skate on the frozen river to visit her, on January 4, 1943, at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, ND. Sylvester was drafted into the U.S. Army in November 1944, and was in Europe until 1946. Their son James was born in August 1945 while Sylvester was still in Germany. Son Rodney was born in February 1951. In 1946 Sylvester and Marian moved to Bowesmont, ND where they purchased the local tavern from Leo Passa, operating it until 1967. They moved to Drayton, ND in 1968. Sylvester died October 6, 1988. Marian worked for various employers, including the Williamson Milk Company of Grafton, Kimballs Turkey Processing Plant of Grafton and the State Developmental Center in Grafton. Marian was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church of Drayton, ND for 63 years. Marian is survived by her sons: COL. (R) James S. (Suki) Ebertowski, Chester, VA; Rodney J. (Judy Brown) Ebertowski, Drayton, ND; grandchildren: Laurie Ebertowski, Washington, DC; CPT (Dr.) James Ebertowski, Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX; Aaron (Kerri) Ebertowski, Buffalo, MN; Lindsay (Brian) Peterson, Dayton, MN; great grandchildren: Mataya, Kaylynn, Hannah and Shelby Ebertowski and Brooke Peterson; sister Eleanor Rapacz, Tacoma, WA; sisters-in-law: Joann Slominski, Warsaw, ND; Mary Ann Sevigny, Grafton, ND; Evelyn Marshall, Long Beach, CA; Beatrice Kasprick, Tacoma, WA; Leona Ebertowski, Warsaw, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sylvester, brothers: Sylvester, Hilary and Barney; sister Isabel and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Thank God! Can see well, breathe great, and dance the polka with Syl again! Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Edward's Catholic Church of Drayton, ND. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-7 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton with a rosary at 5:00 PM and a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery of Warsaw.
