Margy Fae Stangeland, age 94, passed from this world to the next on May 5th, 2026, at the Grafton Sunset Nursing Home.

Margy was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on February 11th, 1932, to Hallie and Maude (Gilman) Clark. During her elementary years, her family moved to the Minneapolis area, where she later graduated from high school. After graduation, Margy earned a degree in cosmetology. Though she never worked professionally as a beautician, she lovingly cut and styled hair for family and friends throughout her life.

Margy was preceded in death by her husband, Ellert Stangeland (2004). She is survived by her children: Brad (Audrey) Wallen of Milton, VT; Kurt (Spring) Wallen of Tampa Bay, FL; and Melody (Kirby) Unruh of Grafton, ND. She is also survived by five grandchildren, eight great‑grandchildren, and three great‑great‑grandchildren, each of whom brought her deep joy and pride.

The final 25 years of Margy’s life were among her happiest, living in the Villa De Remer in Grafton. She found a close camaraderie with her fellow renters. They often enjoyed lunches together at the Developmental Center cafeteria—gatherings that Melody would sometimes join. These simple routines brought Margy great joy and a sense of community.

Margy’s favorite moments were spent over a cup of coffee, engaging in lively debates about cultural issues or current events—especially if there was a slice of apple pie nearby. She loved eating out, reading classic books, and continually educating herself with historical facts. Her curiosity, sharp mind, and love of conversation remained with her throughout her life.

Margy will be remembered for her wit, her warmth, and her deep appreciation for learning and good company. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the James River Church Cemetery in Foster County, North Dakota, near their beloved family homestead.
