Margie M Novak

Margaret (Margie) M. Novak, age 86 of Grafton, ND, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.

Margaret Houska was born November 25, 1934 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late James and Mary (Schiller) Houska.  She grew up in Veseleyville, ND and attended country school in District 58.  After her family moved to Grafton, she attended St. Aloysius Academy in Oakwood, ND.

On June 23, 1953, she was united in marriage to Bernard Novak at St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Veseleyville.  The couple made their home and farmed near Lankin until moving to Grafton in 1962. They had three children: Bonnie, Dale, and Marvin.  After 60 years of marriage, Bernard passed away on September 5, 2013.

Margie was a long-term employee of the Life Skills and Transition Center, retiring in 1998.  Margie moved into the Leisure Estates in September of 2014 and then into the Lutheran Sunset Home in December of 2019.

She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton.  She enjoyed attending all her grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, spending time with her family, and baking.

Margie is survived by her children: Bonnie Novak, Grafton, ND, Dale (Twila) Novak, Grafton, ND, and Marvin Novak, Grand Forks, ND; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister Mary Lou Gourde, Grafton; sisters-in-law: Lillian Houska, Grafton, ND, Jeanie Freije, Warroad, MN, and Judy (George) Fuller, Mandan, ND, as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother James Houska, and in-laws Edward Gourde, Dorothy and Rodney Franson, Edith and Joe Kovarik. and Arnie Freije.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are encouraged. Interment will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery of Grafton.
