Margaret L. Lerud

Margaret L. Lerud, age 92 of Union, North Dakota passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Margaret L. Schuster was born April 13, 1924 near Fairdale, ND the daughter of the late Carl and Hulda (Unke) Schuster. She moved to Union, ND as a small child and attended school there. Margaret was united in marriage to Clifford Lerud on November 10, 1945 at Zion Lutheran Church, Union, ND. The couple made their home in Union. They owned and operated the grocery store in Union from 1951-1992. Margaret also served as the post master in Union from 1956-1989.   Clifford passed away on April 24, 2012.

Margaret was a member of the former Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid of Union and the Trinity Lutheran Church and WELCA of Edinburg. She was a life member of the League of Postmasters.

Margaret is survived by her son Virgil (Annie) Lerud, Union, ND; grandchildren: Marcus (Marianne) Windingland, Edinburg, ND; Kimberly (Travis) Beck, Minneapolis, MN; great grandchildren: Darin (Kyann) Lee, Robyn Lee, Andy and Ryan Beck, her brother, Larry (Shelli) Schuster, Edinburg, ND; her son-in-law, Lyle Amundrud, Edinburg, ND. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Bonnie, four brothers: Melvin, Earl, Lloyd and Lee.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Edinburg, ND. Visitation will be Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Union, ND in the spring.
