Margaret D. Gutterud

Margaret D. Gutterud, age 92 of Park River, ND passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Margaret Donna Gillespie was born May 22, 1922 in Park River, ND the daughter of the late Archie D. and Sarah (Storey) Gillespie. She grew up and attended school in Park River, graduating from the Walsh County Agricultural School. Following her education she was employed at a bank in Grafton. Margaret was united in marriage to Melvin Gutterud on January 26, 1946 in Park River. Margaret worked as the office manager of the Walsh County ASCS office for many years, retiring in 1981. They enjoyed spending their winter months in Mesa, AZ. Melvin passed away on July 4, 2007 and Margaret continued to make her home in Park River and Mesa. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River, Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Mesa, AZ the Order of Eastern Star and the Sons of Norway Vaarliv Lodge of Fairdale. Margaret enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as playing cards, cooking, baking and shopping. She is survived by her son-in-law, John D. Sylvester, Mankato, MN; grandchildren: Sarah (Jim) Sylvester Griffith, Carpentersville, IL and Matthew (Morgan) Sylvester, Minneapolis, MN; great grandchild, MacKenzie and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Enid, brother, Walter and sisters: Mary Erickson, Effie Lindgren and Gladys Lewis. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND.
