Marcene Burtt

Martina Marie (Marcene) Burtt, 82, passed away January 4, 2013 at her home. Marcene was the oldest of the ten children of Sylvester and Mary (Grzadzielewski) Klinicke. She was born March 27, 1930 in Drayton, ND. She attended school in Drayton and Grafton, graduating from Grafton High School in 1948. Marcene was united in marriage to Duane M. Veum on October 30, 1948 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, St. Thomas, ND. To this marriage they were blessed by five children. Duane passed away December 23, 1972. Marcene was united in marriage to Clyde Burtt December 30, 1976 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, ND. Marcene was a business woman, owning her own fabric store in Grafton for several years. Her skills at sewing resulted in her years of making Barbie Doll clothes, clothing, draperies and many craft items. She was a collector of dolls, a member of the Grafton Doll Club, bridge club and St. John's Altar Society. She is survived by her husband Clyde of 35 years, her five children, Roger Veum, Oceano, CA, Wanda (Bill) Nygard, Mitchell, SD, Sheryll (Andras) Owen, Gilbert, AZ, Scott Veum, Tennessee and Sandra Johnson, Flowery Branch, GA, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Marcene is also survived by her 9 brothers and sisters, Louis (Helen) Klinicke, Theresa Rudnick, Donna Nygard, Loretta Orstad, Mary Brown, Gerald (Marnell) Klinicke, Hilary Klinicke, John (Ruth) Klinicke and Sylvester Klinicke Jr. Marcene was preceded in death by her husband Duane, her parents, and great granddaughter. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Hoople. Memorials are preferred to the Altru Hospice, Grafton Division.
