Lyle E. Simmons

Lyle E. Simmons, age 74 of Grafton, ND passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at his home near Grafton surrounded by his family. The family would like to thank hospice for all their care and for allowing Lyle to pass away at home. Lyle E. Simmons was born March 15, 1938 in Greenbush, MN, the son of the late Marion and Anna (Skeim) Simmons. He grew up and attended school there graduating from Greenbush High School in 1956. Following his education he married Mari Van Johnson on July 9, 1960 in Lake Bronson, MN and the couple moved to Grafton, ND where he began working for area farmers. He later worked for Hoople Potato Products until 1991 when his health forced him to retire. Lyle's life was extended for 17 years thanks to a heart transplant that he received on March 23, 1995. He was a member of Bethel Free Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, playing pinochle, and watching regional sports and western movies. He especially loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his wife Mari Van Simmons, Grafton, ND, sons: Nathan Simmons, Grafton, ND, Scott Simmons, Grafton, ND, Mark Simmons, Burnsville, MN, Corey Simmons, Clearwater, FL, Kent Simmons, Harvey, ND, Christopher (Kim) Simmons, Bloomington, IL, daughter Vanessa (Magdaleno) Romo, Grafton, ND; eleven grandchildren; brother Donald Simmons, Grafton, ND; and family friend Naomi Pratschner. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Merle, and sister Joyce. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Bethel Free Lutheran Church, Grafton. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 P.M. with at prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
