Lyla C. Nelson, age 105 of Park River passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River, ND.
Lyla was born to Annie (Erickson) and Amund Nelson on July 30, 1913. She spent her early years on their farm south of Adams, ND. She married Millard Nelson and lived on their farm west of Adams until going into the Good Samaritan home in Park River, ND at the age of 99.
She was a lifelong member of Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid having held all offices over the years. A highlight for mom was having visits or phone calls from her granddaughter, great grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.
She was a voracious reader and it was a shared joke that into her 80's and on up she felt like she may have read any book that was suggested to her. Perhaps by 105 years old most plot lines do seem alike. She loved having flowers and plants around her both inside and out. When she was no longer able to take care of the outdoor gardens she would have many pots of plants on her back porch.
She and Millard shared a love of all animals. They loved their draft horses even when they did not farm with them any longer. Cats were probably her favorites and in her last years on the farm she had "kitty" that rarely left her side. She took great delight in watching the hummingbirds, the deer crossing her yard and for a few years the fox kits playing by the tree line.
She was a spunky sassy woman with a twinkle in her eye ready to joke with people.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Millard, Her parents Annie and Amund, 3 sisters Ardiss, Mercedes and Neota and her daughter-in-law Mavis.
She is survived by her daughter Debra Nelson of Fargo, her son Roger Nelson of Edmore, her granddaughter Melaine (Lyle) Korynta of Glyndon, MN, 3 great granddaughters, Amanda (Cody Asperheim) Korynta of Fargo, Katlin (Brady) Timme of Panama City, FL and Lauren (Michael Enfield) Korynta of Fargo. Nieces: Cindy Phillipe of Warroad, MN, Sandra Finn and Leatrice Simmons, both of Klamath Falls, OR and nephews David (Irene)Levang of Edmore, Stuart (Dawn Beardemphl) Nelson of Adams, Kenneth (Deb) Nelson of Dickinson and Warren Nelson of Fairdale
