Louis J. Schufletowski Sr., age 68 of Park River, ND, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Louis Schufletowski, the son of the late Henry and Louise (Dvolety) Schufletowski, was born September 22, 1944 in Grafton, ND. He attended school in the area and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School where he was active in both football and basketball. He then attended and graduated from the Hanson School of Mechanics in Fargo, ND. Following his education, he worked at the Base Exchange at the Grand Forks AFB for a short time. He was united in marriage to Sharon Simmons on November 20, 1965 in Grafton, ND. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Park River and he began working for his father-in-law at Claude's Service Repair, and later for Torgeson Oil. He also worked for Kaps INC in Park River before becoming the Director of Environmental Services at the Good Samaritan Center. During his 28 years there, he was named the employee of the year twice, in 2006 and 2011. He retired in October of 2012. He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River and a longtime member of the Park River Volunteer Fire Department where he served two terms as rescue chief. He loved his family, friends, and had a love of the outdoors. He was usually found at the lake on weekends. He loved his work with the residents of the Good Samaritan home and had a lasting impact on many people's lives. He played softball for many years for various area businesses, loved fishing, hunting, wine making, Vikings football, gardening, trips to Fargo to spend time with his sons, and making bird houses. Louis is survived by his wife Sharon, Park River, ND, sons: Louis Jr. (Sharon) Schufletowski, Mitchell Schufletowski, and Jason Schufletowski, all of Fargo, ND, 1 granddaughter, Cassandra Schufletowski, Fargo, ND, sisters: Florence Knudson, Arlene (Tony) Reidhammer, Grand Forks, ND, Pat Owen, Delon, TX, brothers: Henry Jr. (Carol) Schufletowski, OK, Emil Schufletowski, Kindred, ND, godson Dustin Slaamod, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, 2 infant sisters, and infant brother, and brother Herman "Thomas" Schufletowski. Memorial services will be Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
