Lorrine C Phelps

Lorrine C. Phelps, age 87 of Park River, ND, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center.

Lorrine C. Torreson was born September 7, 1929 on a farm near Wallingford, IA, the daughter of the late Harold and Tilda (Midboe) Torreson. The family moved to a farm near Hoople, ND in 1934. She attended the District 34 Mt. View school and graduated from Hoople High School in 1947. She then attended the LBI in Minneapolis. She was united in marriage to Vernon (Shorty) Phelps on July 16, 1949 in Walhalla, ND. They lived in the Hoople area until moving to Park River in 1958. Vernon passed away on February 23, 1990.

She was a member of the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and WELCA of Park River. She cooked at the café in Hoople, West Side Drive Inn, Park River Grade School and the Rena Hanson Home. She enjoyed watching Twin’s baseball, doing Sudoku and Crossword puzzles, feeding the birds, going to the casino with her friends and family members and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lorrine is survived by her sons: Bruce (Susan) Phelps, Park River, ND and John (Carolyn) Phelps, Moorhead, MN, grandson Christopher (Ericka) Phelps, granddaughters: Jennifer Phelps, Rachel Phelps and Abigail Phelps, great grandchildren: Breeanna, Ryann, Brody, and Britta, sisters: Adeline Bolstad, Plentywood, MT and Darline Johnson, Mesa, AZ, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon (Shorty) and brother Gilmore.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Park Center Lutheran Cemetery of rural Hoople in the spring.
