Lorna Darlene Holand, age 78 of Park River, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.
Lorna Darlene Franks was born March 19, 1938 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late Lorne and Lorene (McClennon) Franks. She attended rural school near Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School. She received her teaching certificate from Mayville State Teachers College. After her schooling she returned to Hamilton and taught at Hallson County School and Golden Valley School District, rural Park River. Lorna was united in marriage to Richard Holand on July 5, 1958 in Hamilton, ND. She was a homemaker raising her children and returned to work after her children were raised. The couple moved to Park River in 1971 where they continued to make their home until the time of her death.
She was a member of the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Park River and the Park River Homemaker’s Club. Lorna was an example of how a wife and a mother should be to everyone. She cared for a lot of people in many ways. She loved to have tea parties with her grandchildren, she lived for her family. She loved a challenge, loved to learn and never sat still. She was a great cake baker and called them Lorna’s Cakes. She was also an accomplished seamstress.
Lorna is survived by her husband, Richard H. Holand, Park River, ND; children: Lynda (David) DeBuhr, West Fargo, ND; Peter (Donna) Holand, Grafton, ND; Suzanne (Brian) Crane, New Hope, MN; John (Jody) Holand, Corcoran, MN; Dale (Jennifer) Holand, Park River, ND; Mary (Dustin) Martin, Park River; thirteen grandchildren: Eryn (Jason), Kaylee (Josh), Nicole (Jeremiah), Paul (Gabbi), Kelly, Daniel, Joseph, Jennifer (Peter), Richard, Kenneth, Henry, Wynston and Phillip; nine great grandchildren and one on the way, siblings: Harold Franks, Dennison, TX; Murdy Franks, Canton, OH; Gayle (Richard) McConnell, Drayton, ND; Ella (Gordy) Fink, Freemont, CA; Karen (Gary) Markstrom, Roseau, MN; Neil Franks, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Mavis Franks, Canton, OH. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorne and Lorene Franks, sister, Gwen Miller, brother, Dean Franks, and mother-in-law, Allie Holand.
Memorial services will be Friday, February 10, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-7:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service.
