Lon Marvin Burns

Lon Marvin Burns, age 66 of Grafton, ND passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, October 17, 2018, under the care of hospice after a two and a half year battle with cancer.

Lon Marvin Burns was born June 4, 1952 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Marvin and Shirley (Torkelson) Burns.  He graduated from Grafton High School in 1970 and attended NDSSS in Wahpeton for one year.  Later he attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks and received a degree in Business Administration.  Lon was united in marriage to Cheryl Sandvig in 1979.  Together they had one son, Nicholas Lon Burns.  He was employed with Schumacher and Sons for over 40 years, retiring in June of 2017.  Lon enjoyed spending the last twenty years with his life partner, Debbie French. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton.  He was a dedicated hard worker with a strong work ethic.  He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Lon is survived by his son, Nicholas (Nicole) Burns, Grafton, ND; granddaughter, Mila Burns, Grafton, ND; life partner, Debbie French, Grafton, ND; Debbie’s children:  Jason (Alice) French, Maple Grove, MN; Chad (Libby) French, Woodbury, MN; Debbie’s grandchildren:  Halle and Peyton French, Woodbury, MN; his siblings:  Gay (Tom) Bohnet, Firestone, CO; Buzz (Mary) Burns, St. Thomas, ND;  Todd (Traci) Burns, Auburn, ND; Marty Burns, Grafton, ND; Blaine (Shammie Gray) Burns, Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-law, Terry Burns, Grafton, ND.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gary Burns and nieces: Allison Burns and Faith Burns.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, ND.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.  Inurnment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, ND.
