Lois P. Winther, age 90 of Park River, ND passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center.
Lois P. Johnson was born February 23, 1926 in rural Park River, ND, the daughter of the late Peder and Laura (Flaten) Johnson. She graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in 1943. After graduation she moved to Bremerton, WA where she worked in a Puget Sound Navy yard. She moved back to Park River and was united in marriage to Benjamin Winther on November 6, 1946 in Park River. Lois was a “stay at home” mom. When the children were grown she went to work at the Good Samaritan Center in Park River where she worked for 17 years.
She was a member of the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River where she was active in the WELCA, quilting and Circle. She was an accomplished seamstress, wonderful cook, and made the most awesome lefse. Many family and friends were the recipients of her talents.
Lois is survived by her children: Steven (Judy) Winther, Barnard, SD, Paulette (Grant) Magnuson, Fargo, ND, and Edna (Les) Schock, Casselton, ND, foster son Randy (Peggy) Hanson, Minneapolis, MN, 3 grandchildren, 4 foster grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 foster great grandchildren, and sisters: Marilyn (Rossford) Johnson, Park River, ND and Dorothy (Vernon) Russum, Grafton, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Benjamin, son James, brothers: Allerd and Howard, and sister Martha Troftgruben.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Pleasant Valley Lutheran Cemetery of rural Park River.
