Lloyd M. Johnson, age 81 of Park River, ND passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. Lloyd M. Johnson was born August 8, 1927 in Canby, MN the son of the late John and Marie (Swanson) Olson. He attended schools in Fosston, MN. Following his education he worked on the family farm until enlisting in the United States Navy. He served from January of 1946 to November of 1947. Following his discharge he returned to Fosston, MN. He later attended the Hanson's Mechanical School in Moorhead, MN where he trained to be an automobile mechanic. Lloyd was united in marriage to Mildred "Millie" Schlieve on June 23, 1951 in Hawley, MN. The couple lived in Fargo for a short time before moving to Crookston, MN where he was employed at the International Harvester Implement. The couple moved to Park River, ND in 1959 and he owned and operated Johnson's Auto Repair. In 1971 he went to work as the shop foreman at Polar Telephone Company, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and the Crookston Eagle's Club.
He is survived by his wife Millie of Park River, ND; children: Gary (Darlette) Johnson, Salem, OR; Linda (Tim) Baker, Pelican Rapids, MN; Daryl (Melanie) Johnson, Surgoinsville, TN; Marlene Knetter, Green Bay, WI; Lori (Aaron) McCardle, West Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren and sister Faye Swofford, Port Orford, WA. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 10:00 A.m. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Park River, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Paul Farup American Legion Post of Park River.
