The city of St. Thomas is mourning the loss of its oldest resident. Lillian M. Walls passed away on Friday, December 24, 2010 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton under the care of Hospice at the age of 95. Lillian was born April 22, 1915 in Walhalla, ND the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Lafferty) Bartlette. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ed Walls, on December 2, 1933 in Walhalla. They lived and worked on various farms in the area before moving back to St. Thomas in 1955. She was employed at Borden's Inc. in Grafton from April 1961 until retiring in July of 1979. Lilly worked in the housekeeping department and as a result of her efforts the plant received several national awards from Borden's. She was an honorary member of the "Alan Jackson" fan club. She enjoyed playing card games, crocheting, gardening, canning and loved to play bingo. She often took pride in showing friends and family various items and house repairs she paid for with her bingo prize money. Lilly's loves in life were her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren. The grandchildren always knew there would be fresh baked cookies and cinnamon rolls at Grandma's. Lillian is survived by her daughter: Phyllis (Ray) Johnson, Hackensack, MN; sons: Raymond Walls, St Thomas, ND;Francis(Patricia) Walls, St. Thomas, ND; Donald (Ginger) Walls, Port Orchard, WA; Kenneth (Kris) Walls, Firecrest, WA; 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, four brothers, and daughters: Margaret, Delores and Shirley; two grandchildren and daughter-in-law Verna. Lillian will be missed by many and loved by all. Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Thomas Catholic Church, St. Thomas, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery, St. Thomas, ND.
