Levern Kelmer Dahl

Levern Kelmer Dahl, age 88 of Adams, ND passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018 at First Care Health Center of Park River.

Levern Kelmer Dahl was born January 25, 1930 in VestaTownship, Walsh County, ND, the son of the late Carl K. and Pearl (Lindell) Dahl. He attended rural school in Vesta Township and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River in 1948.  He graduated from Mayville State Teachers College with a teaching degree.  Levern was united in marriage to Mavis Dragland on December 7, 1955 in McVille, ND.  He taught school in Bathgate, ND for one year and for one year in Latona Township, rural Adams.  Levern loved farming, and farmed from 1949 until his retirement in 2015.   In 1980 his son Keith joined him in farming.

Levern was known by his family as the “Gentle Giant”. He was extremely kind, loving and patient. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, teaching them to drive and sneaking off to Dairy Queen when they went to town for parts. He enjoyed playing football in high school, hunting, fishing and traveling. He served on the Mountain Lutheran Church Council and the Adams Township Board in the earlier years. He was currently a member of the Victory Free Lutheran Church in Park River.

Levern is survived by his wife, Mavis, Adams, ND; children: Carla (Ronn) Mindeman, Long Prairie, MN; Keith Dahl, Adams, ND; Kevin (Amy) Dahl, Long Prairie, MN; Carolyn (Leland) Balsdon, Osnabrock, ND; nine grandchildren: Sarah, Rachel, Erin, Sally, Erica, Tyler, Emily, Elissa and Nicholas, ten great grandchildren and his sister, Anna Jane (Duane) Haga, Valley City, ND. He is also survived by “his fifth child”, Micheal (Sandy) Von Ruden, numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol, and her spouse George Habben.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Victory Free Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Park River, ND in the spring.
