Leigh G. Brandt, age 73, of Grafton, ND passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND.

Leigh Grant Brandt was born September 22, 1942 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Olaf and Mabel (Larson) Brandt. He grew up and attended school in Park River. Leigh served in the United States Army from 1959-1962, serving in Germany. Following his discharge he returned home and worked for the Red Owl Store. He later worked for the Lord Baltimore Press in Clinton, IA, Borden’s in Grafton, ND and Hoople Potato Products for 22 years. He later worked at Marvin Window’s for 6 ½ years before retiring. Leigh was united in marriage to Diane Marie Czapiewski on October 16, 1971 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Grafton.

Leigh was a member of the Hoople American Legion Post #240.

Leigh is survived by his wife Diane of 44 years, their children: Carrie (Rick) Benson, Grafton, ND; Marshall Brandt, Grand Forks, ND; Kelly Votava, Grafton, ND; LeAnne (Ryan) Puppe, Grafton, ND; nine grandchildren and his siblings: William “Bill” (Teresa) Brandt, Pisek, ND; Robert (Maxine) Brandt, MN; Joni (John) Anderson, Sioux Falls, SD; Deanna Determan, Mitchell, SD; Lynda (Don) Machovsky, Knoxville, IA and Maureen Novak, Grafton, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Jerome “Pudie”, James “Jimmy”, sister Constance “Connie” Cernik, his grandparents and aunts and uncles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Hoople American Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
