Lawrence G. Sondeland, age 91 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. Lawrence G. Sondeland was born February 18, 1920 in Auburn, ND the son of the late John and Birdie (Swanson) Sondeland. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1938. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the B-24 Bomber Squad, 8th Air Force in England. It was here that he met his future wife, Pamela J. Acott of Essex, England. They were married on January 1, 1945 in Colchester, England. After they both completed the military service they returned to North Dakota in the spring of 1946. They started farming in the Milton area in 1947. In 1971, Lawrence and his family moved from the farm to Edinburg, ND. Lawrence farmed in the Milton area until 1988 when he retired. After retiring, he worked for J.G. Hall and Sons. Lawrence was very active in his community, serving on the Milton and Edinburg School Boards, Lutheran Sunset Home Board, Vikur Lutheran Church Board. He was treasurer of the Consolidated Landfill and assessor of East Alma Township. He was an active member of the Milton Masonic Lodge 48 AF & AM, the Milton Veterans Vo-Ag Class, Davidson American Legion Post in Edinburg, Trinity Lutheran Church, Edinburg City Council and served as Mayor of Edinburg for eight years. Lawrence is survived by his wife Pam of Edinburg, ND; children: Janice (James) Poppe, Evanston, WY; Michael (Colleen), Bowman, ND; Jane (Paul) Morin, Prescott Valley, AZ; Peter (Julie), Edinburg, ND; Dale (Shelly), Edinburg, ND; Karen (Don) Hardy, Walhalla, ND; James (Brenda), Edinburg, ND; Wendy (Steve) Burger, Fargo, ND; 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and brother Gordon Sondeland, Hensel, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, sister Evelyn Haug and brother John B. Sondeland. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Edinburg, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Edinburg, ND. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Edinburg, ND. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to the Edinburg Quick Response, Trinity Lutheran Church or the Davidson American Legion Post.
