Lawrence J. Novak

Lawrence J. “Larry” Novak, age 88 of Park River, ND passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the First Care Health Center of Park River.

Lawrence J. Novak was born June 6, 1930 on the family farm near Pisek, ND the son of the late Thomas W. and Rose H. Novak. He attended rural school near the farm. Lawrence was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1952-1954. Upon his discharge he returned home and farmed with his father and brothers. In 1966 Lawrence and his brother purchased the Meat Market in Fordville which he ran for a number of years. He later turned the meat market into Larry’s Bar. During his life he also worked at the Farmer’s Co-op in Edinburg and for the Parks and Rec for the City of Park River. He moved to the Good Samaritan Center in 2015.

He was a 60 year member of the Pisek American Legion Post #208 and a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church of Pisek.

Lawrence is survived by his sisters: Loretta (Joe) Lovcik, Rugby, ND and Patsy (Jim) Votava, Grand Forks, ND; brothers-in-law, Herman Barta Sr., St. Thomas, ND and Douglas Carter, Inkster, ND; sister-in-law, Louise Novak, Park River, ND. Several nieces and nephews along with the nieces and nephews of the Trenda family also survived. He was preceded in death by his parents, very special friend, Doris Trenda, brothers: George T., Donald J. and William F.; sisters: Angeline Zidon, Caroline Barta, Bernice Fischer and Lona Carter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 3:00 Pm at St. John’s Catholic Church of Pisek, ND. Visitation will be Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Pisek, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Pisek American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
