LaVerne M. Spanier, age 82 of Park River, ND and formerly of Edinburg, ND passed away on Tuesday, October 09, 2012 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND. LaVerne M. Ekberg was born August 3, 1930 in Hamlin, SD the daughter of the late Arthur and Mae (Long) Ekberg. She grew up and attended schools in Osnabrock, ND. LaVerne was united in marriage to Jacob L. Spanier on June 20, 1950 in Langdon. The couple made their home in Langdon until 1958 when they moved to Edinburg, ND. They owned and operated the Edinburg Inn until 1976. She later worked as a nurse's aide at St. Ansgar's Hospital in Park River. She also worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Park River until retiring in 2010. She was currently a resident of St. Gabriel's Community in Bismarck until her death. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar Society and the Edinburg American Legion Auxiliary. LaVerne has touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all she touched. She is survived by her children: Mike (Ina) Spanier, Edinburg, ND; Ken (Holly) Spanier, Humboldt, MN; Laurie Spanier, Minot, ND; Tamara (Paul) Blomstedt, Ralston, NE; Trina Mehl, Bismarck, ND; 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and sisters: Shirley (Glen) Hiltner, Spring Valley, AZ; Evelyn (Delanore) Chaput, Cooperstown, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sons: Douglas and David, grandson Darrin, brothers: Leonard, Eugene and Arnold and sister Delores. Memorial Mass will be Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Park River, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Park River, ND.
