LaVerne A. Manderud, age 79 of Grafton, ND, passed away at Lutheran Sunset Home on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.
LaVerne Ann Hodny was born July 29, 1939 in Lankin, ND, the only child of the late Frank and Agnes (Shirek) Hodny. She was raised on the family farm just southwest of Lankin and attended country school. She worked on the family farm, for ASCS in Park River, and Walt’s Jack and Jill in Grafton.
She was united in marriage to Omen Manderud on November 7, 1980 in Grafton at St. John’s Catholic Church. The couple made their home on the farm near Hoople until 2005, when they moved to Leisure Estates in Grafton. Omen passed away in 2007. LaVerne continued to live at Leisure Estates and later moved to Lutheran Sunset Home where she remained until her passing.
LaVerne loved to collect things, she loved to put together jigsaw puzzles and she was a devoted Minnesota Twins fan. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church of Grafton.
LaVerne is survived by her step-daughters: Mary (Thomas) Tveit, Pierre, S.D., Kathryn (James) Mahar, Cavalier, ND, and Ruth (Charles) Stakston, Woodbury, MN; 8 step-grandchildren; and 10 step great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Omen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hoople. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Walsh County Food Pantry or Lutheran Sunset Home.
