Lavelda L Waslaski

Lavelda Lucille Waslaski, age 90 of Park River, ND passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center.

Lavelda L. Domres was born February 7, 1927 on the farm near Dresden, ND, the daughter of the late William and Erna (Sperling) Domres. She attended country grade school near Dresden where her and her sister Arlene would walk two miles to school. The family moved into Dresden and where she attended school until her sophomore year. She finished High School in Langdon, ND where she graduated in 1946. She then went to Valley City Teachers College and earned her teaching certificate. She taught country school at Dresden #1 and Harvey Center where she taught all 8 grades. She was united in marriage to John Waslaski on November 7, 1948 in Dresden. They farmed in Harvey Center until moving to Park River where they operated the Park River Locker Plant with Buzz and Mabel Hell. She also worked several jobs in Park River including Rexall Drug, Polar, the Johnson Store and the Walsh County Senior Center.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. She had a passion for cooking and baking. When anyone stopped to visit, they only left after having something to eat. She was the oldest child and the family matriarch to her five siblings. She was always helpful and loving with open arms and home. She will be greatly missed.

Lavelda is survived by her children: Karyn Waslaski, Duane (Jenny) Waslaski, and Kelly Waslaski, all of Park River, grandchildren: Shane (Jill) Waslaski, Fargo, ND Kali (Bjorn) Flaten, Hoople, ND, Cody (Chelsey) Waslaski, Park River, ND, Katelyn (Fiancé Dirk Nielson) Fargo, ND, Kristopher Waslaski, Park River, ND and Tyler Waslaski, Park River, ND, great grandchildren: Maggie, Harrison, and Charlie Waslaski and Thor and Haaken Flaten, siblings: Delbert (Linda) Domres, Williston, ND, Shirley (Mark) Jennings, Billings, MT, sisters-in-law: Lillian Domres, Towner, ND, Rita Waslaski and Audrey Waslaski, both of Langdon, ND. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her godchildren: Janelle Jennings Berry, Billings, MT and Wade Domres, Sartell, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, sister Arlene (Elmer) Gaschke, brothers Robert (Lucille) Domres and William Domres, brothers-in-law: Joseph (June), Stanley (Lou), Richard, Philip (Agnes), Frank (Mickey), Edward (Edna), Bernard and Arnold, sisters-in-law: Marion (Ludwig) Gerth, Helen Waslaski and Elizabeth (Bruce) Williamson.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Park River.
