Laura Johnson

Laura (Horgdal) Johnson was born on January 26, 1930, in Elfros, Saskatchewan to Wilhelm and Oluf (Olafson) Horgdal. She received her education, through grade 8, in the District #24 School, North of Mountain, North Dakota. In August 1949 she married Roy Johnson and together they raised five children. She was a member of the Vidalin Lutheran Church, where she also taught Sunday school. Her employment history included work at the Borg Pioneer Memorial Home kitchen, followed by many years, until retirement, at Halls of Edinburg. Laura was proud of her Icelandic roots. She was also an avid (Country) music lover, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, word searches and Jumbles, spent many hours playing cards, collecting owl figurines, belt buckles, and bolo ties. In addition to that, she also liked to garden, bird watch and barbeque with her family and friends. She would often entertain her grandchildren with song, dance, whistling, and yodeling. She was preceded in death by both her parents, her siblings Emily Skaro, Sophie Hall, Runa Byron, Freda Hall, Alvin, Wilfred, and Ole, as well as her three sons Randy, Loren, and Kenneth. She is survived by her two daughters Janice Ellefson, Mesa AZ, and Marcella (Dennis) Gustafson, West Fargo, ND, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Laura, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend, passed away on February 1, 2012 at Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier. She was the kind of woman that let you know you mattered to her. She was always available to listen and she further inspired us with her strong work ethic, love of family, faith in God, and humble lifestyle. She will live on in our hearts and memories forever. Memorial services will be on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Gardar Lutheran Church of Gardar. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
