Laddie M Bata

Laddie M. Bata, age 92 of Park River, ND and formerly of Adams, ND passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the First Care Health Center of Park River.

Laddie M. Bata was born July 22, 1924 in Latona Township, Walsh County, ND the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Barta) Bata. He grew up and attended school in Latona Township. Laddie served in the United States Army from July of 1944 to June of 1946. Following his discharge he returned home. He was united in marriage to Viola Lomen on July 15, 1947 in Grand Forks, ND. The couple lived in Grand Forks for a time and he worked at Pontiac Motors. In 1948 the couple moved to the farm in Latona Township and farmed there until retiring in 1988 when they moved to Park River, ND. In the 1960’s he also worked as a security guard for the Boeing Missile Sites.

Laddie was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. He was a trustee and Deacon of the former Sarepta Lutheran Church. He was a 70 year member of the Adams American Legion Post, a member of the Northeast North Dakota Pioneer Machinery Association and the W.F.L.A. Kosobud Lodge. He served on the Adams School Board, Latona Township Board and the Adams Farmers Elevator Board.

Laddie is survived by his wife, Viola, Park River, ND; children: Judy (Lee) McLaughlin, Lankin, ND; Michael (Cheri) Bata, Savage, MN; John (Denise) Bata, Adams, ND; James (Deb) Bata, Orr, ND; Bill (Alicia) Bata, Adams, ND; Ellen (Todd) Horter, Grafton, ND; Lori (Keith) Igyarto, Kaiserslautern, Germany, Jayne (Scott) Anderson, White Rock, NM; 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Marlene, great grandson, Declan Quirk, two sisters: Bessie Zahradka and Sylvie Bata and two brothers: Myron and Joseph.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Bosh-Ryba American Legion Post of Lankin and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Kosobud Cemetery, rural Lankin, ND.
