Kristjan A. Heigaard

Kristjan A. Heigaard, age 82 of Crystal, ND passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Kristjan A. Heigaard was born November 27, 1928 in Crystal, ND, the son of the late Oliver and Laufey (Anderson) Heigaard. Kris graduated from Gardar High School. He attended the University of North Dakota and later California Polytechnic State University. He returned home to Crystal where he began working with his father in the trucking business. He then worked for Olafson Brothers Construction for many years. Kristjan was united in marriage to Rita E. Widme on June 7, 1958 in Crystal. The couple made their home in Crystal where they raised their family. Kris took pride in his grandchildren and close relationships with nieces and nephews. Kristjan was an active member in the Crystal American Legion Post and a lifetime member of the VFW. Kristjan is survived by his wife Rita Heigaard, Crystal, ND; son Stephen (Shelley) Heigaard, Park River, ND; daughter Hollis (Patrick) Deisz, Eagan, MN; grandchildren: Nathan Heigaard, Park River, ND; Brady (Johanna) Heigaard, Fargo, ND; Cass Heigaard, Park River, ND; Samuel and Malcolm Deisz, Eagan, MN; siblings: Lillian Ferguson, Drayton, ND; Mae (Leon) Rollin, Littleton, CO; Arthur (Mabel) Heigaard, Metter, GA; James (Kaye) Heigaard, Enumclaw, WA; Helen (Harlan) Bowles, Milton, ND; William (Paula) Heigaard, Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-law Karen (Melvin) Kristjanson, Mountain, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ingebjorg (James) Johannesson and brother Herbert Heigaard. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Gardar Lutheran Church, Gardar, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Crystal, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Crystal American Legion Post.
