Kenneth E. Johnson

Kenneth E. Johnson, age 93 of Nash, ND passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton.

Kenneth Elwood Johnson was born to Oscar and Olava (Flom) Johnson in Grafton, ND on January 24, 1925. He attended Glenwood School district 13 and Grafton High School, graduating in 1944. He was united in marriage to Beatrice G. Brateng on February 8, 1948 and they spent 66 years together before Beatrice passed away on July 15, 2014. Ken and Bea lived and farmed in Glenwood Township (Nash) their entire lives.

Ken and Bea were lifelong members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Kenneth served on the boards of Nash Grain and Trading, the Nash School, the Park River Bible Camp, North Trinity Cemetery Board, Nash Bulk Potato Association, and he was a member of the Northeast Pioneer Machinery Association. He played baseball on the Nash baseball team that was part of the Walsh County Amateur Baseball League where he often pitched and his brother Orrin (Bud) would catch. Kenneth also enjoyed curling and was a member of the Walsh County Curling Club. One of the things Kenneth will be remembered for is organizing and ringing the bell at North Trinity Church each Christmas Eve.

Kenneth is survived by his son Keith and his wife Bonnie of Nash, ND, grandsons: Gavin Johnson and his wife Kassandra of Bury St. Edmunds, England and their son Henry and Chad Johnson and his wife Christina of East Grand Forks, MN and their children Blaine, Brock and Amelia. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beatrice, son William (Bill), brother Orrin (Bud), and sister Lois (Klava).

The family wishes to express their thanks to the nurses and staff of the Lutheran Sunset Home for their kindness and loving care of Kenneth during the past four years.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the North Trinity Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Grafton or the North Trinity Cemetery Fund.
