Karen L. Flanagan, age 71 of Gardar, North Dakota died at the Woodside Village in Grand Forks, ND, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Karen L. Mullen was born June 1, 1943 in Grafton, ND the daughter of the late Thomas and Esther (Bergman) Mullen. She grew up and attended school in Crystal, ND. Karen was united in marriage to Daniel Flanagan on August 18, 1962 in Crystal, ND. The couple made their home in Gardar. Karen was employed at the Borg Pioneer Home in Moutain for 25 years, retiring in 2008. She became a resident of the Borg Home in 2010 and in 2012 she moved to Woodside Village. Karen was very active in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Crystal and Gardar Lutheran Church in Gardar. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Karen is survived by her children: Kelly (Kenna) McCurry, Lansing, KS; Daniel (Shanna) Flanagan, Mountain, ND; Kathy (Brad) Costello, Grand Forks, ND; eight grandchildren: Keaton (Nicole) Flanagan, Courtney (Chris) Nygard, Hali (Bryan) Olson, Kilen Flanagan, Matthew and Jacob McCurry and Braden & Lily Costello, two great granddaughters: Aspynn Nygard and Fallyn Olson, her sisters: Colleen (Jim) Langerud, Hoople, ND and Patti (Jim) Cameron, Crystal, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Daniel on Sept. 15, 1993. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Gardar Pioneer Church, Gardar, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Gardar Cemetery.
