June O French

June O. French, age 89 of Grafton, ND passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, ND.

June O. Demers was born May 31, 1930 in Grafton, ND the daughter of the late Albert and Amanda (Durand) Demers. She attended school in Oakwood and graduated from the St. Aloysius Academy in 1948. She attended Nursing School in Fargo for one quarter with her best friend and cousin, Bertha Campbell. June returned home and worked as a cashier at Nelson Drug and the S&L store. June was united in marriage to Anthony French on November 12, 1952 in Oakwood. The couple lived and farmed near Oakwood where they raised their nine children. In 1985 the couple moved to Grafton and June cared for her husband who suffered with Alzheimer’s Disease until his death on November 17, 1993. She worked as a Dietary Aide at the Lutheran Sunset Home from 1990-2005. In November of 2013 she moved to Leisure Estates.

June enjoyed doing ceramics with her sister, Grace Brodeur. She had beautiful gardens and flowers on the farm. She enjoyed visiting relatives and friends and loved to read. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. She met many people, who became good friends through her work and activities at Prairie Rose, Grafton Floral, Chase School, Curves and her church.

She is survived by her children: Nancy (Howard) Erickson, Westhope, ND; Lon (Deb) French, Broomfield, CO; Luanne (Lee) Scallon, Mayville, ND; Tracy (Todd) Forbord, Grafton, ND; Jay (Jody) French, Horace, ND; Renae (Gene) Fayette, Grafton, ND; Robyn Johnston, West Fargo, ND; Mary Beth (Larry) Droogsma, Melrose, MN and son-in-law, Jim Fugleberg, 27 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Cindy Fugleberg, grandsons: Jesse Scallon and Kyle Erickson and sister and brother-in-law Grace (Paul) Brodeur.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton, ND. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Oakwood, ND.
