June Y. Almen

June Almen of Park River passed away January 25, 2015, at Park River Good Samaritan Center. June Yvonne Lageson was born June 30, 1927 at Temple, ND, to Laura Lageson. After the death of her mother, she was adopted at the age of four years by Olaf and Bertina Vole. She graduated from Lawton (ND) High School in 1945. She initially received a teaching certificate from Mayville State Teachers College. She taught in rural schools and continued her education to receive a BA in Education from Mayville. After 43 years she retired from teaching in 1989, the last 26 years at Park River Elementary School. She was a devoted teacher and loved her students. She is remembered as often saying, "these students are my kids." On January 5, 1954, she married Joseph Almen. They spent their married life farming near Park River. Joe passed away March 30, 1998. She was a member of Park Center Lutheran Church and ALCW of rural Park River. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ruth Almen of Coon Rapids, MN, loving nephews and nieces-in law, Gene Estad, Grafton, ND; Joy Blair, Langdon, ND; Joel, Jerry and LaVoy Olson, all of Hoople, ND; Bonita Cooper, Jasper, AR; Marquita Laidlaw and Kevin Almen, Coon Rapids, MN; Timothy Almen, Blaine, MN, and former students. A memorial service will be held in May at Park Center Lutheran Church.
