Joy V. Gilleshammer

Joy V. Gilleshammer, age 93 of Grafton, ND passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2016 at her home in Grafton.

Joy Vivian Andeson was born June 23, 1922, in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late Ole and Sophia (Forester) Anderson. She was a graduate of Grafton High School. She was united in marriage to Orvil Gilleshammer on August 14, 1942 in Portland, OR. She worked for Harry & David’s gifts and Jantzen swimwear. Joy truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; being with family and friends, being a homemaker, curling, golfing, dancing, fishing, girls trips, enjoying the breeze at the lake, the sunshine of Florida and always making you smile with her sense of humor and quick wit.

She was a member of Grafton Lutheran Church and Ladies Aide, American Legion Auxiliary and the first President of the Heather’s Curling Club in Grafton.

Left to honor Joy and remember her love are Joy’s two daughters: Karen (Johnny) Thiele, St. Thomas, ND; Kay (Steve) Halverson, Fargo, ND; brother-in-law, Glenn (Loretta) Gilleshammer, Grafton, ND; sister-in-law, June Gilleshammer, Grafton, ND; six grandchildren: Mark (Catherine) Halverson, Joanna (John) Dols, Heidi (Pete) McDonald, Preston (Krystle) Thiele, Peter Thiele and Brian (Sara) Halverson; 13 great grandchildren; compassionate caregiver Tammy (Greg) Young and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orvil, two infant daughters; sister, Lillian Hanson and brothers: Clarence, Joseph, Alan, Orville, Vernon and Ray Anderson.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Grafton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to Grafton Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
