Josephine C. "Jo" Elbert, age 90 of Grafton, ND died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Josephine C. Wollner was born April 30, 1918 in Emmetsburg, IA the daughter of the late John E. and Margaret R. (Deneen) Wollner. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1937. She started working for the J.C. Penney Company in Emmetsburg as a sales associate. While working at Penney's she met her future husband Norvin Elbert in 1939. The couple was engaged to be married in 1942. Norv served in the U.S. Army during World War II. When he returned home the couple married on January 3, 1946 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. They continued their employment with the J.C. Penney Co. living in New Ulm, MN; Willmar, MN; Ada, MN and in 1960 they moved to Grafton, ND where they have resided since.

Josephine was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society. She also volunteered as a religion teacher. She served as a Cub Scout leader and Den Mother, volunteered at the Lutheran Sunset Home and Second Time Around Store, but most of all she was a wife and mother.

Jo is survived by her husband Norv of Grafton, ND; sons: Dennis (Dora) Elbert, Grand Forks, ND; David (Rebecca) Elbert, Fargo, ND; Dale (Amy) Elbert, Grand Forks, ND; 10 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; brothers: Ed (Marge) Wollner, Milford, IA and Joseph (Lois) Wollner, Bancroft, IA; sister-in-law Julie Wollner, Chicago, IL and brother-in-law Kenny Kenyon, Emmetsburg, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Mike Wollner and sister Margaret Kenyon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 at St. John's Catholic Church. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the church cemetery.

The Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton is in charge of the arrangements.
