Jose P. Contreras

Jose P. Contreras, age 64 of Grafton, ND passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at his home in Grafton.

Jose P. Contreras was born April 17, 1951 in Laredo, TX the son of the late Eugenio and Florinda (Sanchez) Contreras. He attended school in Laredo. Jose did migrant farm labor between Laredo and Grafton for over 50 years. While in Laredo he would do mechanic work. Jose was united in marriage to Sylvia Lopez on May 11, 1973 in Laredo. The couple has made Grafton their home for the last twelve years.

Jose is survived by his wife, Sylvia, Grafton, ND; children: Maribel Contreras (Louis Ojeda), Oslo, MN; Imelda Contreras, Oslo, MN; Jose P. (Amelia) Contreras, Jr.; Crookston, MN; Fernando (Nicole) Contreras, Grand Forks, ND; Jesse Contreras, Grafton, ND; 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, siblings: Eugenio (Neva), Laredo, TX; Rafael (Jeanne), St. Thomas, ND; Mary Helen (Juan) Gonzales, Laredo, TX; Elsa (Ernesto) Delacruz, Laredo, TX; Rachel (Michael) Dahl, Houston, TX; Ros Anna (Norberto) Paredes, Laredo, TX; Carolina (Fortunato) Blanquez, Laredo, TX; Margarita (Eddy) Resendez, Laredo, TX; Bella A. (Ruben) Garcia, Laredo, TX; Leonel, Francisco and Arturo, all of Laredo, TX; Maria (Heriberto) Gonzales, Laredo, TX; Adelita (Rudy) Roldan, Houston, TX; Emiliano (Christina), St. Thomas, ND; special nephew, Rafeal (Laura) Contreras, Fargo, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Isreal and special nephew: Jason Scott, Juan Gonzales Jr. and grandson Jerome Contreras.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 15, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM at St. John’s Catholic Church. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
