John L. Landrigan

John Louis Landrigan, 96, of Grafton, ND, passed away on June 8, 2017 at the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton, ND. John was born on February 9, 1921 in St. Thomas, North Dakota to Jeremiah (Jerry) and Eva Donnelly Landrigan. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1939. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November, 1940, where he served on various destroyers until his discharge in November, 1946.

John married Mollie Flahavan on November 18, 1947 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They moved to St. Thomas, ND where he resumed farming the Landrigan land with his brother, Gerald until 1979.

John and Mollie resided part-time in Lake Havasu, AZ from 1981 thru 2006, where they enjoyed their winters, time with their friends and golfing. John was proud of his “hole-in-one” made during his time in Arizona.

His grandchildren will always remember Grampa John squirting them with the hose on hot summer days, golf cart rides, rubbing his head for money, and his famous chocolate malts.

John and Mollie moved to Grafton, ND in 2006 until his death. John was a member of the American Legion.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie of nearly 70 years; his youngest daughter, Mary Sue Landrigan; his parents, Jerry and Eva Landrigan; sisters, Veronica (Carl) Swedenberg, Marion (Marvin) Smith, Kathryn (Vernie) Lysengen, and his brother Gerald (Virginia) Landrigan. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

John is survived by his children, Mollie Anne Weis (Gordon) of Chicago, IL, Joe Landrigan of St. Thomas, ND, and Kass Mihelich (Jim) of Grand Forks ND; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, St. Thomas, North Dakota. Military rites will be provided by the St. Thomas American Legion and the U.S Navy Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to the Lutheran Sunset Home or Altru Hospice – Grafton Division.
