Johann Sigurdur Isfeld

Johann Sigurdur "Sigurd" Isfeld, age 91 of Gardar, ND passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital of Cavalier. Johann Sigurdur Isfeld was born May 6, 1919 on the family farm near Gardar, ND the son of the late Steingrimur and Anna Katrin (Stephansdottir) Isfeld. He grew up and graduated from High School in Gardar. Following his education he took over the family farm. Sigurd was united in marriage to Mary Katherine O'Sullivan on January 14, 1955 in Wahpeton, ND. The couple made their home on the family farm near Gardar. Sigurd farmed until retiring in 2005 and continued to live on the farm until his death. He was the Gardar Township Supervisor and served as a 4-H leader in the 1950's. He is survived by his daughter Anna (Dr. Craig) Kuhlmann, Fargo, ND; three grandchildren: Matthew Kuhlmann, Fargo, ND; Mallory (Braden) Sutton, Cincinnati, OH; Kallie Kuhlmann, Fargo, ND; a great granddaughter: Marrin Sutton, Cincinnati, OH; his sister; Ann Melsted, Breckenridge, MN; brother-in-law; Paul Bjorneby, Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-law; Helen (Laurence) Ramsey, Crystal, ND; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Katherine on Feb. 21, 1999, his sister June Bjorneby and brother-in -law Bjorn Melsted. Funeral services will be Monday, September 27, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Pioneer Lutheran Church of Gardar, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg. Friends may also call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Gardar Cemetery, Gardar, ND.
