Joanne P. Babinski

Joanne P. Babinski, age 85 of Minto, ND passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at her home in Minto.

Joanne Osowski was born February 4, 1940 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late Bruno and Stella (Ebertowski) Osowski. She grew up near Warsaw, ND and attended school in Warsaw and Oslo, MN. She was united in marriage to Keith Shambaugh in May of 1960. The couple made their home in Minto where they raised their 5 children. They eventually divorced and she was united in marriage to Allan Babinski in June of 1986. They made their home in Minto where she worked as a bartender and later worked for the Census and the Daycare.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto. She enjoyed gardening, pull-tabs, travelling, sewing and baking.

Joanne is survived by her children: James (Robin) Shambaugh, Minto, ND, Chris Shambaugh, Minto, ND, Joy (Jeff) Orvedal, Churchs Ferry, ND, Diane (Mark) Gilleshammer, Grafton, ND, and Mark (Liz) Shambaugh, Isanti, MN; grandchildren: Tyler, Dustin, Megan, Cameron, Taron, Dakota, Anthony, Brian, Trisha, Lindsay, Cody, Zach, Morgan, Madelynn, Ellie, Amanda; 23 great grandchildren; step daughter April (Aaron) Smested; siblings: Maxine Wilkes and Ernest (Karen) Osowski, both of Grand Forks, ND; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Allan, grandson Brady Gilleshammer, sisters: Sarah Nice, Esther Narloch, Beatrice Houdek, and Louise Sevigny, as well as 3 infant siblings.

An open house celebrating Joanne’s life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 4-7 PM at the Minto Community Center.
