Joan Slominski

b. April 21, 1941

Joan M. Slominski, age 67 of Minto, ND passed away peacefully in her home in Minto surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 25, 2008. Joan M. Lizakowski was born April 21, 1941 in Minto, ND the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Stoltman) Lizakowski. She attended school in Minto. Joan was united in marriage to Louie Slominski on August 1, 1957 in Minto, ND. The couple worked together on the family farm and have customed harvested for 50 years. Joan enjoyed watching the crops grow and seeing the changing of the seasons. She received the 2007 Red River Farm Woman of the year award.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society. She served as Director of the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery Board and served on the Minto Planning and Zoning Committee. She loved to cook and authored her own cookbook. She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. She loved to sew, doing crafts, scrapbooking and especially loved helping others.

She is survived by her husband Louie of Minto, children: Sandy (Keith) Schrank, Grafton, ND; Bill (Kathy) Slominski, Minto, ND; Dan Slominski, Minto, ND; Sheila (Don) Manger, Presho, SD; Sharon Mondry, Grand Forks, ND; Louie Jr. (Kimberly) Slominski, Minto, ND; Sara (Francois) Du Toit, Morgan Hill, CA; 16 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; sisters: Clara Wysocki, Grand Forks, ND; Frances Gerszewski, Grand Forks, ND; Helen (Stephen) Johnson, Grand Forks, ND; Marianne (Don) Rudnik, Minto, ND; brother David (Karen) Lizakowski, Fort Dodge, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and Uncle David Stoltman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 29, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the church in Minto. Friends may also call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family would prefer memorials to the Minto Quick Response, Golden Age Senior Citizens, Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery or the Altru Hospice, Grafton Office.

The Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton is in charge of the arrangements.
