Jean K. Tanke, age 90 of Grafton, ND passed away on Monday, February 03, 2014 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Jean K. Schultz was born on January 2, 1924 in Walsh County, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Catherine (Gornowicz) Schultz. She grew up and attended rural school in the Warsaw/Minto area. Following her education, she began working for Francis Phelan and later Bill Offutt grading potatoes. She was united in marriage to George Tanke on June 11, 1945 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Minto. The couple made their home on a farm near Grafton until 1979 when they moved into town. George passed away in 1982. Jean moved into the Lutheran Sunset Home in September of 2010. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Jean is survived by her daughters: Judy McMillian, Grafton, ND, Sandra (Terry) Estad, Grafton, ND, Georgia (Randy) Aho, Crookston, MN, Gayle (Don) Beneda, Lankin, ND, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sister Zenona Murach, Nielsville, MN, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, a grandson, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
