Jean E. Larson, 95, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 at PCM Hospital in Cavalier, ND.
Jean Stewart was born on a farm near Grafton, ND on June 22, 1923 to Herbert and Segre (Carlson) Stewart.
She was the only girl with four brothers. She attended elementary school at the rural school and finished high school in Grafton graduating in 1941.
On January 29, 1943 she married Ronald Larson. They owned and operated a creamery in Pembina, ND and after losing it to fire owned the Junction Drive Inn in St. Vincent, MN and later the Pembina Hotel in Pembina, ND. In the early 60’s they built the Interstate Drive Inn in Pembina. Later they moved to Thief River Falls MN then to Grand Forks. Jean worked at JC Penney in Grand Forks until her retirement.
She moved to Briarwood Apt. in Grand Forks, then Leisure Estates in Grafton before moving to Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier in 2016.
Jean enjoyed a good game of pinochle. She played cards until well into her 90’s. She also enjoyed reading, family time at Maple Lake and was an excellent baker known for her Hershey almond pie.
She is survived by her children: Connie Degelder (Jerry Molacek), Bemidji, MN, and Nancy (Joe) Defoe, Pembina, ND; grandchildren: Scott (JaCinda) Degelder, Ryan Degelder (Heather Hoffman), Megan (Aaron) Bonaime, Matt Defoe (Jen Kissner) and Nicole Defoe; great grandchildren: MacKenzie (Justin Burnham), Mya and Dawson Degelder, Elliana, Elise and Emmett Bonaime and Andrew Kjos; Siblings: Robert (Mary Lou) Stewart and James (Donna) Stewart.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Ronald; brothers Charles and Jack Stewart.
The family appreciates the care she received at Leisure Estates and Wedgewood Manor.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 20, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Skjeberg Lutheran Cemetery of rural Drayton.
